Erwin F. Burke, 82, of Woodmont Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:55 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, in Regency Place of South Bend. He was born on Oct. 27, 1916, in Knowleton, Wis.

On July 18, 1939, in South Bend, he married Helen G.Toth, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Allan F. (Jackie) Burke of Three Rivers, Mich. and James E. (Karen) Burke of Mishawaka, Ind.; five grandchildren, Scott, Heather, Jeff, Jenny and Kari; 10 greatgrandchildren, Ryan, Lindsey, Riley, Connor, Kyle, Caitlyn, Emily, Nicholas, Sam and Madison; two sisters, Irene Mutzl of South Bend, and Ruby Meaders of Los Alamos, N.M.; and by two brothers, Wilfred C. Burke of Bellvidere, Ill. and George Burke of Williamsville, N.Y.

Mr. Burke was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served special assignments in the Bureau of Ordnance, Washington D.C., and at the U.S. Navy Film Depository, Chicago. Mr. Burke was the chairman of the board of Burke Technologies, Inc. which he founded in June of 1936. He was chairman of the Neighborhood Business Development Corp. Inc., president and founder of South Gateway Improvement Association, past president of Nava, The International Communications Industries Association, past president of Kiwanis Club of South Bend in 1974 where he had 27 years of perfect attendance, past Lieutenant Governor, 1978 of Kiwanis International - Indiana District, past president of Northern Indiana Council - Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver award in 1969, member-at-large of the Valley Council - Boy Scouts, founder and member of Gravel Lake Association, member of the South Bend/Mishawaka Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge #294, life member of Scottish Rite, a member of South Bend Elks Lodge #235, was a life member of Southhold Restorations, Inc. and a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood with Rev. James Miller of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.
