Robert Crosby Coffman Sr., 63, of La Crescenta, Calif., formerly of South Bend, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in Kaiser Hospital, near La Crescenta, after a brief illness. Born on Dec. 4, 1916, in Flint, Mich., he lived in South Bend for several years, graduating from Riley High School and the Bendix Corp. training school here. He had been employed for 25 vears as an engineer for the Lockheed Aircraft Corp., Burbank, Calif.

His wife, Phyllis, survives along with two daughters, Mrs. Ramona Coffman Fratkin and Miss Dawn Coffman, both of California; a son, Robert C. Jr. of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. J. Ditzenberger of Lansing, Mich.; and two brothers, George of Nashville, Tenn., and Rudley of El Cerido, Calif.

Cremation will be in LaCrescenta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. He was as a member of Masonic Lodge 45 of South Bend: the Scottish Rite. Valley of South Bend: and the Orak Shrine Temple of Hammond.

He was a World War II veteran
