Virginia Dahlstrom (Knight)

W. Virginia (Dahlstrom) Knight

Jan 16, 1918 - Nov 8, 1949

Word of the tragic slaying of a former St. Joseph woman, Mrs. Virginia Dahlstrom Knight, 31, and the suicide of her former husband, Clyde Knight, in Tulsa, Okla., was received here today by relatives. Mrs. Knight is the daughter of the late Charles Dahlstrom and Margaret Dahlstrom who moved from St. Joseph to South Bend several vears ago.

The slain woman's grandmother, Mrs. Anna Dahlstrom, lives at 1723 South State street. Several aunts and uncles of Mrs. Knight aiso reside in St. Joseph.

Tulsa police stated this morning in a telephone interview with The Herald-Press that Mrs. Knight was shot at 5:12 p. m. yesterday in the living room of her, home at 2707 East Archer avenue, Tulsa, dying a few minutes later from three bullet wounds in her body.

Her former husband, whom she had divorced only a week ago, fired the three shots from a .45 calibre automatic into his wife's body as he visited her and their small daughter. Two of the bullets pierced her left chest and third, fired after she had slumped to the floor, entered her abdomen, Knight, a 29-year-old insurance broker, then turned the gun on himself, firing a single bullet into his heart which caused almost instantaneous death. Tulsa police stated that it is their belief that Knight was temporarily insane when he shot his wife and killed himself. No notes were left by the suicide victim, but police stated that friends of Knight indicated that he had been despondent since his wife filed divorce proceedings, over a month ago. Their two-year-old daughter, Cheryl, was not harmed and was found by neighbors who rushed in after hearing the shooting in a bedroom of the small home.

The slain woman's body will be brought to St. Joseph for funeral services and burial. It is expected to arrive at the Kerlikowske funeral home sometime late tonight. Funeral services are incomplete.
