Mary E. Udell

Mary E. Udell, 69, of 1121 Sussex Drive, died at 8 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness. Miss Udell retired in 1977 from Indiana Bell Telephone Co. after 30 years as a switchboard operator. She was born Dec. 25, 1917, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

She is survived by a sister, Virginia Rychuralski of South Bend; and a brother, William H. Udell of Mesa, Ariz.; a niece; and two nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, where the parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. She was a member of the church and the Pioneer Club.
