Erwin Delton VanGilder, 68, of 3630 S. Lake Shore Drive, St. Joseph, formerly of South Bend, died at 6:28 a.m. Tuesday in Mercy-Memorial hospital, St. Joseph. Mr. VanGilder was an auto dealer for Bonanza Motors, Benton Harbor, and the former owner and president of T.C.I., Sturgis.
He was born Aug. 24, 1918, in South Bend, and lived in Michigan for 29 years. On May 25, 1959, in New Orleans, he married Barbara Dixon, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Eric of Pasadena, Calif., and Mark, at home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. VanGilder was a graduate of Riley High School. He was a veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart.
