Wilbur E. Campbell Jr.

2001 Wilbur Earl "Bill" Campbell died on Jan. 29, 2001, in North Fulton Regional Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.. at age of 75. after a long period of declining health. He was born 15 July 1925, in South Bend. Ind. to Wilbur E. and Elsie M. (Staiger) Campbell, who were originally from the Bucyrus, Ohio, area. He spent his youth in South Bend where he eventually met his future wite Mundy (Ramey).

After successfully serving as P.F.C. in the Black Hawks Division of Gen. Patton's Third Army during the "Battle of the Bulge," World War II, (Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal), he returned home and later married Mundy on June 11, 1948. He was a member of Acacia and received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering at Purdue University, graduating as salutatorian in 1949 just prior to the birth of their first child, Mark. He went on to complete a master's in psychology and their second son, Don, was born in 1952.

Over, his career he taught high school science and chemistry classes in South Bend (Nuner and Central High School) and in North Liberty, Ind.. and worked for the Bendix Corporation (aerospace and brake divisions) as a quality control engineer. He was an avid golfer and won. several trophies in the Bendix League.

Mr. Campbell was well liked by both students and co-workers, generous to those in real need, and was a loving and attentive husband and father. After retirement and the passing of his parents, he and his wife moved to Atlanta in the mid 80s, living close to his wife's only sister, Nancy Erickson, and their mother, Isabel (Calvert) Ramey.

Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife and two sons, a grandson, Tim of New Paltz, N.Y., and his sister, Faith Malone of Inverness, Fla.

A private family service is contemplated.
