Rev. J. Edward Engstrom

Rev. J. Edward Engstrom, 73, died Sunday, May 23, 1999 at Community Hospital after an extended illness. He was born July 28, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana, and was the son of August and Julia (Wilson) Engstrom. He resided in the South Bend area until 1987 when he moved to Orlando, Fla., and then to Highland, Texas, where he ministered. He served in the ministry 44 years, 30 of those years which were spent in Anderson at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church where he was currently serving as Pastor. Rev. Engstrom started in the ministry working with the late Rev. Lester Sumrall, moreover, while pastoring in Anderson, he was active in the TV ministries of World Harvest on Channel 40 for a number of years. He considered it a great privilege to be able to study God's word and thoroughly enjoyed doing so.
Rev. Engstrom graduated from South Bend Riley High School in 1943. Following WWII, he served in the Army of Occupation in Germany.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Virginia Hafstrom, who he met and married in South Bend in 1948; two sons, Rev. Douglas Engstrom of Massachusetts and Toronto, Canada, and Bryan (wife - Linda Lee) Engstrom, Shelbyville, Ind.; one daughter, Linda Gail (husband, Rev. Howard) Edwards, Portage, Wis.; four grandchildren, Amy (husband, Lonnie) Cohee, Portage, Wis., Ryan Edwards of Portage, Wis., Eric and Christopher Engstrom of Shelbyville, Ind.; and one Cohee of Portage, Wis. great-grandson, Collin James
Rev. Engstrom was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ruth Engstrom, and brothers Robert and Carl Engstrom.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, Anderson, Ind., with the Rev. David Wigington of the Assemblies of God Indiana Headquarters officiating. The family will receive visitors at the Glad. Tidings Church Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will follow at the Assemblies of God Cemetery in Waupaca, Wis. The Hueston-Whetsel Funeral Home of Alexandria, Ind., is in charge of arrangements
