Thomas Michael Gillen

Thomas M.Gillen, 81, of South Bend, passed away on October 20, 2006, in Hospice House with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 24, 1925, in South Bend, to William Earl and Mary (Kramer) Gillen.His parents, brother, William, and sister, Mary Anne Gillen, have preceded him in death.
On June 30, 1947, he married Marlin (Kirby) in Elkhart , Ind. She survives, along with their children, Geraldine (Dale) Wedel of South Bend, Mary Kay (Timothy) Beekman of Mishawaka, Susan (Alan) Kilburn of Lapel, Ind., Timothy J.(Tracy) Gillen of Indianapolis, and Marlene Villecco of Mishawaka;21 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Tommy served in World War II with the “67” SeaBees. He then retired in 1988, from United States Postal Service, where he was a postal clerk. He also worked for the Tribune for 19 years.Tommy enjoyed helping out with the Boy Scouts of America and he was a lifetime member of St. Matthews Cathedral. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 4:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m.in ST JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E.IRELAND RD, SOUTH BEND.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at 10:00 a.m.in St. Matthews Cathedral. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
