Utha M Ramey (Campbell)

Utha Mundy (Ramey) Campbell

Aug. 31, 1925 - Jan. 14, 2002

Mundy Ramey Campbell, (born Utha Mundy Ramey), 76, passed away quietly at home in the company of her family and friends around twelve noon on Monday, the fourteenth of January, 2002, in Atlanta, Ga.

Mundy was born on Aug. 31, 1925, in Carrollton, Ky., to Isabel (Calvert) and Harold F. ("Doc") Ramey, later moving with her family to Danville, Ill., at the age of 12, and afterwards, moving in 1941 to reside in South Bend, Ind. Mundy graduated from J. W. Riley High School there, then served as a teletype operator during World War II at the South Bend Army Depot.

On June 11, 1948, not wanting a "big ta-do," she romantically eloped with Wilbur "Bill" Campbell Jr. (also of South Bend), and they were married in a small private ceremony in Niles, Mich. They lived briefly in Lafayette, Ind., while Bill completed his master's degree at Purdue, then returned to South Bend where they had their first son, Mark, late in 1949, and their second son, Donald, in early 1952. Mundy and Bill lived happily in the South Bend area for over 30 years, spending time with family and many good friends, then retired to Atlanta in the early 1980s to spend their "golden years" with Georgia family members, and their many new friends. Mundy was a loving and attentive wife and mother for well over 50 years, and will be missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her two sons; and by her sister, Nancy Erickson; her grandson, Timothy; and by many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service for family is contemplated. In lieu of flowers, concerned parties may wish to make a memorial contribution to "St. Stephen A.O.C." - for the orphanage fund, c/o St. Stephen Church, 1047 Mein-Mitchell Road, Hiram, GA 30141
