John Richard Steele, 56, of Rt. 4, Lake Wawasee, Syracuse, a South Bend native, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday in his home following an extended illness. There will be no visitation. ('remation will take place.

The Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. lle was born on Oct. 1, 1925 in South Bend. He moved to Syracuse in 1973 from Millersburg, Ky. He was an English teacher and instructor at Millersburg Military Institute in Millersburg, Ky.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Phyllis) White of Syracuse, Mrs. Mary Lou Merriman of South Bend and Mrs. John (Carolyn) Lubach of Clinton, Wash.; and his mother, Mrs. Carlie Steele of Syracuse
