SOUTH BEND Richard D. Smith, 76, of 214 Rue Flambeau, died about noon Wednesday in his home. Mr. Smith retired as a cabinetmaker. He was born Dec. 3, 1915, in South Bend and lived in Goshen from 1964 until 1982, returning to South Bend.

On Oct. 30, 1945, in South Bend, he married Cecelia Schlemmer. She died May 3, 1988. He is survived by two sons, Jack of Fort Wayne and Bruce of Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Whaley, Frances Hale, and Mabel Zehender, all of South Bend; and a brother, Alfred of Niles.

He was a veteran of World War II.

There will be no services. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive.
