Joseph D. Gerschoffer

Joseph D. "Papa Joe" Gerschoffer, 69, of South Miami Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away of natural causes on Sunday, May 17, in the St. Joseph Medical Center. Mr. Gerschoffer was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., and moved to South Bend in 1930.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Gerschoffer; and by a cousin, Jack Vigus.

An alumni of Riley High School, Mr. Gerschoffer retired after 21 years as part owner of Jovi's Restaurant & Lounge on South Miami Street.

On April 25, 1950, in South Bend, he married Vivian Kunz, who survives. He is also survived by five sons, Mark (Kay) Gerschoffer, Neil Gerschoffer, Kerry Gerschoffer and David Gerschoffer, all of South Bend, and Paul (Kim) Gerschoffer of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and by four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Gerschoffer's name may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
