Esther Jane (Weaver) Enfield

Esther Jane Enfield, 77, residing in South Bend, passed away following an illness at 11:25 p.m.Saturday, September 16, 2006, in Hospice House. She was born May 25, 1929, in Bertrand, Michigan, as the daughter of Clyde Dell and Luretta (Price) Weaver, and had lived in the South Bend area most of her life.
On February 7, 1953, in Gospel Center Missionary Church, South Bend, as Esther Weaver, she married Gordon E. Enfield.Esther is survived by her loving and caring husband, Gordon of 53 years.Also surviving are four brothers, Lewis Willard Weaver of Pasadena, CA, Rexford Glen Weaver of South Bend, Kenneth Weaver of Houston, TX, and Richard Weaver of Scottville, MI;and several nieces and nephews.
Esther graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School, South Bend, and attended Bethel College, Mishawaka.She was employed as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell. When she and Gordon moved to the Fort Wayne area, she sold Bibles.
Esther served as a Sunday school teacher at the Missionary Church in Ligonier and at Sunshine Chapel in South Bend.She wrote Christian music and poems, and was a frequent contributor to “Voice of the People”in the South Bend Tribune. She enjoyed photography, gardening and planting her flowers and vegetables, fishing, and traveling and visiting around the country.She had been a longtime member of Gospel Center Missionary Church in South Bend and always enjoyed sharing her testimony for Jesus. She spent a great deal of time caring for her mother and sister.
Esther was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Bultman, Emma Alpha Bailey and Julia Iname Yaw; and five brothers, Carroll Weaver, Alan Dean Weaver, Charles Sylvester Weaver, Virgil Weaver and Robert Dale Weaver.
Services celebrating the life of Esther J.Enfield will be at 11:00 a.m.Thursday, September 21, in Gospel Center Missionary Church. Rev.Philip Jerome, pastor, will officiate.Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.20, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and one hour prior to services Thursday in the church.
