Caroline Galbreath Curran, 78, of New Carrollton, Maryland, formerly of South Bend, died October 1, in her home after a short illness. Caroline Rachel Galbreath was born October 20, 1919, in Indianapolis to Lawrence E. and Minnie (Freund) Galbreath, both now deceased.

The family moved to South Bend in 1926. Caroline went to Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Riley High School in 1937. She attended classes at Indiana University Extension, then located at Central High School. She was employed at the Bendix Corporation in the Accounting Department.

On March 6, 1943, in St. Patrick's Church, she married Lt. James E. Curran of Dorchester, Mass., whom she met when he was a student at Notre Dame University. They lived at several bases in the East before he was sent overseas in 1944. She came back to South Bend to live until he was discharged in 1946. He died January 31, 1988.

She is survived by three daughters, Caroline M. (Delbert) Hughes, Kathleen A. (James) Wilcox and Teresa L. (Daniel) Puma. Also five sons, James L. (Anne) Curran, Kevin M. Curran, Brian T. (Susan) Curran, Sean J. (Elizabeth) Curran and Timothy P. (Patricia) Curran, all living in the Maryland area. Her grandchildren are: Careen, Megan and Matthew Hughes, Kelly and Michael Sabol and Heather Leonard, Shannon, Brendan and Patrick Curran, Bridget, Colleen and Danny Puma, Erin, Sarah and Thomas Curran, Sean Curran, Jr., and Mary Catherine and Health Curran. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Curran, of Dorchester, Mass., a cousin, Ernest E. Freund of South Bend, and her sister, Minnie Mae Clair of South Bend.

Friends may call at the Gasch Funeral Home, Hyattsville, Md. from 6 to 9 p.m. today, October 4. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 5.
