Virginia L. Armstrong, 81, of V Bradenton, died Jan. 29, 2001, in Freedom Village Nursing Center. Service will be held privately, with the Rev. John Gatewood officiating. Burial will be in Ellenton. Shannon Funeral Home, Westview Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3200 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, Fla. 34205.

Born in Akron, Ind., Mrs. Armstrong came to Manatee County from Lafayette, Ind., in 1973. She was a homemaker. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of the YWCA, and a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary, Danville, Ill.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy A. Anderson of Champagne, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Sarah McMahon of Richmond, Va.; a son, Robert S. Nichols of Theodore, Ala.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
