Elizabeth "Betty" (Vanderbosch) Powell

June 10, 1919 - March 23, 2015

SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth "Betty" Decker Powell entered into rest on March 23, 2015, in Mesa, AZ. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, on June 10, 1919, to William and Genevieve [Lane] Vanderbosch. She married Andrew Linden "Pete" Decker in South Bend on September 21, 1943. They had forty-six years together before he passed on March 15, 1990. On June 29, 1996, she married Robert A. Powell in Mishawaka, Indiana. He passed on November 27, 1999.

She is survived by her five children: Lynn (Michael) Verhaeghe of Bremen, Indiana, Tom (Dwight Auten) Decker of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jerry (Judy Veris) Decker of Trinidad, Colorado, Cynthia Decker of Mesa, Arizona, and Michael Decker of Mesa, Arizona. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Mark (Kim) and Matt Verhaeghe, Isabel Mason, Jesse (Kyle) Mullins, Jonah (Emily) Decker, Johanna Decker (Trevor) Reedy and Jason (Tiffany) Decker; eight great-grand-children: Brytni and Jordan Verhaeghe, Lucas and Maverick Decker, Trenten and Kaleb Reedy, and Adeline and Andrew Decker; and one great-great-grandson, Kaedon Wolfe. She also leaves behind three stepchildren: Carolyn (Craig) Grant of Bradenton, Florida, Robert J. Powell of Syracuse, Indiana, Ron Powell of Mishawaka, Indiana, and their families.

Betty lived an extremely active social life ("Decker special", anyone?) more active than anyone else we know. The room always lit up when Betty arrived.
