Ruby M. Stephens, 87, of South Bend, Indiana, died peacefully in her home on Monday morning, December 4, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim in 2000. Her sisters, Margaret and Edith Lilly, also preceded her in death

Ruby enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and watching her favorites: John Wayne, Lucille Ball, Gunsmokeand Jessica Landsbury.She always had time to play cards and games with children of any age, and helped her friends through their sickness and good times. Her sisters, Margaret and Edith Lilly, also preceded her in death. A woman of old-fashioned values and virtues, she will be greatly missed by family and friends.A private person, she asked little for herself but gave much to others.She retained her sense of humor and spunk throughout her life. Ruby was fortunate to have the care and companionship of her son Jim and friend, Cindy, which allowed her to remain in her home. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr.John.

A homemaker, with a great sense of humor and a gift of giving, Ruby leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, James Jr., Larry and Elaine (Dennis) Kuespert. She is also survived by her sister, Treva Weaver, and her brother, Dewey VanLue. Of equal importance to her were her grandchildren, Michele (Bruce) Kulp of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Sheila Lampert, Jennifer (Derek) Sailor and Adam (Andrea) Stephens, all of Mishawaka, Connie (Larry) Stagg of Elkhart, Spring Stephens of South Bend, Drew (Amber) Kuespert of Angola and Khara (Matt) Brooks of Mishawaka. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Matthew James Barna, Nicholas Lampert, Aleigha, Jay and Kaley Stagg, Chelsea Parratore, Brendan Stephens, Elijah and Abigail Brooks, and Ellise Kuespert. One fifth-generation great-great-grandchild, Jacob Daniel Stagg, was born in September of this year.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon Thursday, December 7, 2006, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. Services will be held at noon Thursday, December 7, 2006, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
