Janet N. (Wiley) Sears

SOUTH BEND — Janet N.Sears, 76, passed away on Saturday, July 10th, at 9:40 p.m. in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. Janet was born on October 12, 1933, in South Bend, and resided in the Michiana area her entire lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Lucy (Lawton) Wiley, and a brother, John Wiley
On September 19, 1955, in South Bend, Janet married her loving husband, Donald L.Sears, who survives. Mrs.Sears is also survived by three daughters, Donna M.(Bryan) Chordash of Winter Springs, FL, Nancy C. (Dean) Belcher of Forsyth, IL, and Lucy L.Sears of South Bend. Also surviving are three sons, Alan L. (Anne) Sears, Bruce A. Sears and Thomas L. Sears, all of South Bend; two sisters, Phyllis Wiley of Remington, IN, and Joan Wiley of South Bend; two brothers, Phil (Dutchie) Wiley and Joe (Deb) Wiley, all of South Bend; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Janet played professional baseball for the American Professional Baseball League (AAGP- BL).She was an active member of the Cathedral of St.Matthew, and she was a homemaker who enjoyed woodworking and gardening.Most of all, Janet loved her family dearly.
Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 14th, in Hanley & Sons “Southwest Chapel” Funeral Home, located at W est Ireland Road/Indiana SR 23 , South Bend. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, July 15th, at 1:30 p.m.in the Cathedral of St.Matthew, with Msgr. Michael Heintz officiating.Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to Southern Care Hospice or to the Bishop Crowley Fund at the Cathedral of St.Matthew. The HANLEY AND SONS “Southwest Chapel” Funeral Home handled the arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Sears family.
