Doris L. (Searfoss) Goon

Doris L. "Dodie" Goon, 71, residing on South St. Joseph Street, South Bend, passed away at 4:55 a.m.Thursday, November 7, 2002 in her home following a lengthy illness. She was born March 16, 1931 in South Bend as the daughter of E. Herman & Ina (Sheneman) Searfoss and has been a lifelong resident of this community.

On April 14, 1951 in South Bend as Doris Searfoss she married Paul Goon. She is survived by her husband Paul of 51 years, along with a daughter Paula (Stephen) Davis of South Bend; two sons, David (Margaret) Gohn of Brownstown, IN; and Thaddeus (Jennifer Cripe) Rice of Crete, IL. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ryan (Lynn) Pershing, Grant Pershing, Wesley Gohn, Amelia Gohn, and Garry Rice; two step grandchildren, Stephen Davis Jr.; and Christine Cummiskey; one great granddaughter, and Lillian stepa great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Cummiskey; a sister, Alice (Roy) Burlington of Mount Pleasant, MI; a brother, Clifford (Juanita) Searfoss of South Bend; along with several half and step brothers and sisters.

Dodie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Debra Rice in 1976; two sisters, Marjory Streich in 2000; Grace Sharp in 1982; and two brothers, Robert Searfoss in 2002, and Eugene Searfoss in 1956; along with several step and half brothers.

Mrs. Goon retired as a Receptionist with the Southmore Housing Corporation following 30 years of service. She attended Sonlight Fellowship Wesleyan Church, South Bend.

Services for Mrs. Goon will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 10, in Sonlight Fellowship Wesleyan Church, 3702 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. John Branch, pastor will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow w at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Palmer Funeral.
