Richard “Dick” Messenger, Jr.

MISHAWAKA, IN - On December 20, 2018, the world lost Dick Messenger, a generous and giving, all-around good guy and free spirit. He was born in Canton, Ohio, but raised in South Bend, by Dick and Verna Messenger, who passed in Florida in 2015 and 2006, respectively. He served as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam, and worked as a conductor with the railroad, ultimately Norfolk Southern, until his retirement in 2011. He also served as the union Local Chairman. He loved his Harley and golfing, having finally achieved a hole-in-one on the 17th at Eberhart in 2014.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 40 years, Denise Messenger; his cat, Tom; his mother, Katherine Bulman; his sons, Rick (Betty) Roberts and Jason Roberts; his grandchildren, Brittany, Danielle, Lauren, Hannah, Deanna, and Christian; his great-grandsons, Liam and Hudson; his brothers and sisters, Bob (Liz) Messenger, Mark (Sharon) Messenger, Mike (Becky) Messenger, Jim (Lori) Messenger, Ginger (John) Dayton, David (Chris) Bulman, Debra (Dan) Wiggins, Joyce (Roger) Smith, and Henry (Yung) Bulman; and many nieces and nephews, and their children.
Visitation and celebration of Dick's life will be on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615.
