Richard Thomas Maxey
January 11, 1945 ~ April 01, 2026 (age 81)
Richard “Tom” Maxey, 81, a lifelong resident of South Bend passed away on Wednesday April 1, 2026, at the Center for Hospice-Raclin House.
Tom was born in South Bend on January 11, 1945, to the late James and Thelma (Moore) Maxey. He graduated from Riley Hgh School in 1964.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam.
On August 9, 1969, he married the love of his life, Judith Weiss, sharing 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2023.
Tom worked as a laborer at Bendix, later Honeywell. He was also a faithful member of the Centre Twp. Fire Department, the Ford Model A Club, and the American Legion #303. Tom and Judy were also members of Deer Run Church of Christ.
Tom is survived by his children; Michelle (Christopher) Kowalski, Marcia (Christopher) Greenwood, and Dean Maxey as well as his grandchildren; Andrew (Noelani) Jon (Chelsea), Emily (Tyler), Connor, Cassidy, and Melanie as well as 8 great-grandchildren and his brother, James (Coralice) Maxey.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Judith, and his brother, Sheldon.
Visitation for Tom will be held from 4pm-7pm on Monday April 6, 2026 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S Michigan St. South Bend. Visitation will also be held from 10am-11am with a funeral service beginning at 11am, Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Deer Run Church of Christ, 2730 S. Ironwood Dr. South Bend, IN 46614. Burial will follow with military honors at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Michiana Christian Academy or to Deer Run Church of Christ.
