SOUTH BEND - Dr. William J. Ewald, 77, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of South Bend, died Sunday in St. Luke's Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla. Dr. Ewald practiced dentistry in the South Bend area for 30 years.

He was born July 28, 1917, in South Bend.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of St. Petersburg, a son, Greg of St. Petersburg; and two grandsons.

He was past president of St. Joseph Dental Association, was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation has taken place at Hatcher Cremations, Jacksonville.
