SOUTH BEND - Virginia M. Carder, 89, died Wed., August 26, in her home. She was born June 16, 1920, in South Bend to Jason and Lydia (Grabowski) Alderson who preceded her in death. As a young woman, she was the president of the D. D. Sub-Deb Club and worked for the Bendix Corporation during World War II.

On August 27, 1941, she was wed in South Bend to Harry Carder who died January 5, 1981. She was a loving and devoted mother to her three surviving children, Cindy (Luke Stemm) Williams of Elkhart, Sue (David) Hill of Granger, and Kirk Carder of South Bend. She was also a fun-loving and affectionate grandmother to her four surviving grandchildren, Jodie (Michael) Parm, Kelly Williams, Sara (Brad) Voth and Nicholas Hill as well as to her great-grandson, Aiden Voth.

Virginia was a kind, cheerful and giving spirit who enjoyed playing euchre, gardening, traveling and bowling. She was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Friday, August 28, in the HICKEY Funeral Home: 17131 Cleveland Rd. (entrances open on Cleveland Road) with Rev. David Schrader- pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call 11 to 1:30 today in the Funeral Home.
