Sabina Salome (Grabarczyk) Dvoracek

Sabina Salome Dvoracek, 84, of Eau Claire died with dignity and grace in the arms of her family at her home on January 9, 2005.
Sabina was born on March 22, 1920, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Michael and Martha Grabarczyk. She graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, and from Lucas County Nursing School in Toledo, Ohio. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps during WW II and served as a first lieutenant at Tourney General Hospital in Palm Springs, Calif. It was there that she met Frank Dvoracek of West, Texas, to whom she was married for 61 years. After serving in the Army, they moved to South Bend, Ind., until 1961, when they moved to Eau Claire. Sabina retired from nursing at Sacred Heart Hospital in 1985.
Sabina is survived by her husband; and three children, Dennis (Janis) of Chippewa Falls, Francine Dvoracek of Grafton, Wis., and Nicholas (Sarah Hansen) of Oshkosh, Wis.; her grandchildren, Christopher (Susan) Dvoracek of Chippewa Falls, Alexander Dvoracek of Eau Claire, Benjamin (Pamela) Dvoracek of Eden Prairie, Minn., Stephan (Heather) Hochstatter of Mequon, Wis., Dmitri Hochstatter of Fort Collins, Colo., and Andrew Hansen-Dvoracek of Oshkosh; great-grandchildren, David and Jeffrey Dvoracek of Chippewa Falls. She is also survived by her sisters, Jean Kuhn of Mishawaka, Ind., and Adele Haverstock of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Stana Boehnlein of Mishawaka, Ind.
Sabina was an excellent gardener and loved to share her expertise with others. She remained an active member of the community until two weeks before her death.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Stokes & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway (Hwy. 12 East) in Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
