SOUTH BEND Etta M. Portman, 73, of South Addison Street, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday in her home, of natural causes. Mrs. Portman retired in 1980 from Gilbert's Men's Clothing Store after 40 years of service. She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
On Feb. 20, 1943, in Salt Lake City, as Etta M. Dubin, she married Harry Portman. He survives with two sons, Rabbi Jeffrey R. of Iowa City, Iowa, and Robert D. of Houston; three sisters, Mary Schulman and Ida McCubbins, both of South Bend, and Bessie Crile of Stuart, Fla.; and a brother, Harry Gibbons of Hallandale, Fla.
She was a member of Hebrew Orthodox Congregation. Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. There will be no visitation.
