Chester M. Hamlin, 55, Livermore, Calif., formerly of South Bend, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday of an apparent heart attack while visiting his sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack Steckley of Bristol.

Hamlin was a draftsman for the Sandia Laboratories, Livermore. Born on May 26, 1919, in South Bend, he had lived in California since moving there from Des Moines, Iowa 15 years ago.

Surviving are his father, Raymond G. Hamlin Sr. of South Bend; four sons, Ronnie of Fort Hood, Tex., David of Hayward, Calif., Donald of Fort Wayne and Chester G. of Livermore; two daughters, Miss Catherine Hamlin and Mrs. Sandra Austin, both of Livermore; six grandchildren, and a brother, Ray of Livermore.

Services were to be today in the Forest G. Hay and Son Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan. Dr. George E. Hutches, retired Seventh Day Adventist minister, was to officiate. Burial was to be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Hamlin was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Laurel Lodge 414 F&AM in Laurel, Miss
