Robert W. Mathews
Robert Wilson Mathews, 53, of 19998 Brick Rd., died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec 28, 1973, in Memorial Hospital after an Illness of six months. He was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Kewanna, and lived in the South Bend area since 1925 when he came from Kewanna.
On Oct. 7, 1938, in Mishawaka, he married Katherine M. Kerns, who survives, along with a son, Larry R. of Niles; two grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Richard Eckhart of Winter Haven, Fla., and Mrs. Freeman Howard of Elyria, Ohio.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Forest G. Hay and Son Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. James D. Jones, associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery
He was a plant supervisor for the Smith Monroe Gay Hose Corp. in Niles. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 26 of Niles.
