Ethel (Varga) Marten

Ethel Marten, 83, of St.Paul’s Retirement Community, died at 1:30 a.m.Saturday, Feb.1, in Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind. Mrs.Martin worked a short time during the war and as a receptionist at LS Ayres.She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.In 1947, in Lagrange, Ind., Ethel married Myron Carvey Hatch, who died in 1963.Then she married Richard Marten, who preceded her in death.She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly A.(Craig) Marten of Edgerton, Wis.;a son, Norman (Mary) Hatch of Carmel, Ind.;one stepson, Robert (Marilyn) Hatch of South Bend; two granddaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth Hatch;two step-grandchildren, Paul Hatch and Laura Repzinski;and by a brother, Steve (Dorothy) Varga of South Bend.

Mrs.Marten graduated in January 1938 from Riley High School. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. There will be no visitation or funeral services.Cremation will take place. The Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 South Michigan St., South Bend, is in charge of arrangements.
