Victor Thomas (Tomasitz)
March 23, 1920 – Sept. 7, 2003
Loving and devoted father, son, husband, brother, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away at age 83 on Sunday, Sept. 7, following a lengthy illness. Words cannot express the warmth and beautiful smile he had for everyone he met. Born on March 23, 1920, in South Bend, Ind., to Elizabeth and Mathias Tomasitz, Victor graduated from Riley High School where he was a star member of the football team.
Victor was honorably discharged from the U.S.Army in 1945. He served as an Army Flash Ranging Observer during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, where he earned five Bronze Stars. He retired from sales at Kreamo Bakery in South Bend. He moved to Santa Fe, N.M., in March 2000, where he resided near his daughter, Carol Sue Thomas. Victor enjoyed golf, football, dancing, and especially friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lucille; his son, Christopher Thomas; his mother and father;sisters, Julie Ann Kronewitter, Anna Yordanich and Helen Royce; stepbrother, Thomas Behoff;and by a nephew, Carl Yordanich, He is survived by daughter, Carol Sue Thomas;sons, David and Kevin Thomas;10 grandchildren;his sister, Betty Koski; nieces, Sharon O’Brien and Janet Tessley, and nephew, Terry Koski.
We would like to send special thanks to all of Victor’s family and friends for their time and care. Memorial services for Victor Thomas will be held on Friday, Sept.26, with a 9 a.m.Mass in St Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception, 211 S.Lincoln Ave., Niles, Mich., followed by an 11 a.m.Military Ceremony held at Highlands Cemetery, Portage Avenue in South Bend.
