Anne Marie (Vegh) Chikar

Anne Marie B. Chikar, 95, passed away at 11:15am Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Caring Junction. Anne Marie was born on January 3, 1920 in South Bend to Gabriel and Anna (Szucs) Vegh. She was employed as a credit manager at the Frances Shop and also at the Milady Shop. Anne was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, its St. Anne Society and the American Business Women, Potawatomi Chapter.

On June 29, 1946 in South Bend she married George J. Chikar. He died on February 13, 1997. Anne Marie was also preceded in death by two brothers Zoltan Vegh and John Vegh.

Surviving are a daughter Georgeanne C. Whelan of Texas, four granddaughters Christine (James Jr.) Walsh, Michelle Whelan, Colleen (Dylan) Cabanaw and Elizabeth Whelan, eight great-grandchildren Jason, Dylan Jr., Rylee, Alexander, Carson, Madison, Connor and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Friday, July 31, 2015 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 5:30pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church.
