Helen Weidman (Bodine) - Class Of 1939 VIEW PROFILE

Helen Weidman (Bodine)

Helen M. (Weidman) Bodine

May 10, 1921 - Oct 4, 2011

Helen was born in South Bend, a daughter of Arthur Theodore & Amelia Weidman, and remained a lifelong resident. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Southfield Village.

Helen M. Bodine was a musician's muse. She will be fondly remembered by the many students she taught over the years in her music studio.

She began playing the piano at the age of 4, and began teaching at 17 years old. She was a one-woman ecumenical association. Some of her happiest days were spent as organist for the many churches and synagogues in the South Bend area. She began as pianist for Temple Beth-El in 1955, a position she held for many decades. She was also organist at the Cathedral of St. Matthew for more than 15 years, and organist at First Christian Church for more than thirty years, as well as St. Jude Catholic Church. A highlight was a trip to the Vatican in 1989 to accompany the St. Matthews Choir.

She is survived by her cousin Lois Jakoby of Blue Grass, IA, several admiring second cousins, and many friends that will never forget the joy she brought to every occasion.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 So. Michigan Street, South Bend, where friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Those wishing to honor Helen's legacy are encouraged to choose a worthy cause for the enhancement of musicians.
