Maxine E. (Allen) Mumford

Maxine E. Mumford, 82, of West Bay Street, Costa Mesa, Calif., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Monday, Nov.1, in Silverado Senior Living, Costa Mesa. Maxine was born Feb.3, 1922, in South Bend, to Melvin and Sophia (Blumhardt) Allen. On Feb.2, 1947, in South Bend she married Vernard “Sparky” Lee Mumford. He preceded her in death on Jan.5, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and by her son, Patrick Mumford.

Maxine is survived by her son, Michael Joseph of Sarasota, Fla.;her granddaughter, Jesi Pearce; her brother, Eugene B. Allen of South Bend; and three great- grandchildren.

She was formerly a beautician.

Friends may visit in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind., at 1 p.m. Saturday, with visitation one hour before services in the funeral home.Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola
