Raymond V. Messersmith

Raymond V. Messersmith, 80, of Parkovash Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, in Memorial Hospital, Mr. Messersmith was born on July 2, 1920, in Plymouth, Ind., to the late Alonzo T. and Lelia (Burns) Messersmith, and had lived in South Bend most of his life.
On July 4, 1946, in Niles, Mich., he married Hannah Vincent, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sue (Glenn) Chesnut of South Bend; three grandchildren, Donnie (Andrea Rogers) Ehmen and Esa Ehmen, both of South Bend, and Benjamin T. (Jessica) Chesnut of Mooresville, Ind.; and by a brother, William H. Messersmith of South Bend. Mr.
Messersmith retired from the Bendix Corporation as a machinist in 1982 after 25 years service. He was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church, South Bend, Lakeville Lodge #353 F&AM, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter #479, Lakeville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, in the WELSHEIMER FUNERAL HOME, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, with Rev. Charles Ternet of Maple Grove United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 6, in the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Indiana Chapter, 425 N.
