O. Patricia (Roberts) Shawhan Downs

Nov. 22, 1921 - Oct. 14, 2005 O. Patricia Shawhan Downs, 83, of South Bend, passed away at 11:43 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2005 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born November 22, 1921 in Rochester, IN to Willis Harold & Olive Marie (Carr) Roberts, and has lived in the South Bend community most of her life. She was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School where she was a cheerleader.

As O. Patricia Roberts, she married Richard S. Shawhan in South Bend. They were married for 35 years. Then on September 27, 1974 in South Bend she married Morton Downs who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Scott Shawhan, Christopher Shawhan, and Patrick Shawhan, and a brother, David Carr Roberts.

Mrs. Downs was an active member of River Park United Methodist Church for more than 69 years. She was also a member of Sigma Phi Beta. She retired from River Park Jeweler's on Mishawaka Ave., following 40 years of service. Pat was a woman of strong faith. She was also a very generous person, always wanting to help others in need.

Her family, friends, and church were always most important to her. She loved them all very much, and she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Shawhan (Tim Gollogly) of South Bend, three grandsons, Adam Shawhan of Mishawaka, Christopher Patterson and Patrick Austin both of South Bend, four great grandchildren, and two sisters, Myra Stemnock of Indianapolis, IN; and Mary LoMiglio of Eureka, CA.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Patricia Downs will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, in River Park United Methodist Church, 920 South 23rd Street, South Bend. Rev. Kathy Miller, pastor will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service time in the church on Wednesday.
