Frank Beres, 76, of Aberdeen Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born on Feb. 2, 1921, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area' resident. He retired in 1986 from the South Bend Community School Corporation as a maintenance engineer.

Mr. Beres was married on Aug. 23, 1944, in South Bend, to Margaret Kovasics, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Ellen S. Chadwick of South Bend; two sons, Michael K. (Kika) Beres of South Bend and Thomas G. (Lynn) Beres of Granger, Ind.; five grandchildren, Christopher Beres, Allison Beres and Kathryn Beres, all of Granger, Mark Beres and Lauren Beres, both of South Bend; and by a brother, Emery Beres of Lake Arrowhead, Calif.

Mr. Beres was an Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, received in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6 and St. Jude Catholic Church.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, South Bend. A Rosary will be said at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church with entombment to follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church Building Fund, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN, 46614; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
