Lloyd E. “Sid” Crothers

SOUTH BEND - Lloyd E. "Sid" Crothers, 86, passed away at 12:12 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, in Jupiter Medical Center, Jupiter, FL. He was born May 1, 1922, in South Bend, to Sidney and Daisy (Webster) Crothers. On August 9, 1941, in South Bend, he married Genevieve "Jerry" A. (Reiter) Crothers, who preceded him in death on December 9, 1983. Sid's second wife, Donna (Jones) Lindell, preceded him in death in February 1997.

Mr. Crothers is survived by three daughters, Barbara St. Germain of Bedford, TX, Dorothy Anderson of Elkhart and Mary Jeziorski of Mishawaka; four sons, Robert J. (Cindy) Crothers of Elkhart, David J. (Beverly) Crothers of Mishawaka, Bernie (Chris) Crothers of South Bend and Alan (Brenda) Crothers of Mishawaka; 16 grandchildren, John Crothers, Karen Rohm, Andy Crothers, Kelly Crothers, Christopher Anderson, Travis Anderson, Michael St. Germain, Matt St. Germain, Debbie Bicknell, Christi Mejer, Heather Crothers-Nkhoma, Rachel Tan, Brandon Crothers, Daniel Jeziorski, Tyler Jeziorski and Taylor Jones; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marilyn Craig of South Bend and Delores Fox of Mishawaka.

One sister, Frances Koon, preceded her brother in death.

Mr. Crothers served in the 82nd Airborne Division in the United States Army during World War II. His military unit liberated the Wobbel Concentration Camp in Ludwigslust, Germany. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Crothers was employed by Studebaker Corporation until their closing in 1963 and retired in 1987 from the South Bend Parks Department. Sid was an avid golfer and fisherman. He passed along the love of those sports to many of his children and grandchildren. He was also a talented artist and passed those skills to his children and grandchildren.
