Frances E. (Kincaid) Buchanan

Frances E. Buchanan, 76, of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness on Sunday evening, Sept. 13, in Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 13, 1922, in South Bend, to Edgar W. and Jennie M. (Baxter) Kincaid. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cora Smith, Clara M. Tebo and Alice Gran; and by a brother, Willis Kincaid.
On June 18, 1949, in South Bend, she married William J. Buchanan, who survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Susan Smith of Mishawaka, Ind.; her sons, John Buchanan of Plano, Texas, and Greg of Brownsburg, Ind.; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Christina, Jeffrie, Mark and Tracy; and by two sisters, Emily Kuhl and Edna Corse, both of South Bend.
Mrs. Buchanan worked at the former Gilberts Men's Store in South Bend from 1951 until she retired in 1989, and was the late Paul Gilberts' personal secretary. She attended Elder School, Franklin School, and she graduated from Riley in 1940. She belonged to the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, and was active in the Church Circle Club, was past chief of the Vikings Club, and held memberships in the Princess Bridge Club and the Riley Lunch Bunch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, 1406 E. Ewing Avenue, with the Rev. Harris Schultz, pastor of the church, and Rev. Steven Mullins. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Friends are invited to greet the family from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
