Edward James Kuntz

Edward J. Kuntz, 77, died June 23, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. Born July 18, 1921 in Bremen, he was the son of Elmer Edward and Vera (Wener) Kuntz. He was married to Betty Alice (B.A.) Rutherford, formerly of Kokomo. He served 'in World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, leaving his studies at Indiana University, and returning after the war.
Kuntz joined the faculty of the School of Business at Indiana University in 1948. He helped the university build what is now the School of Continuing studies, and served as wits Associate Dean; then acting Dean during the decade of the 1970's. He served as assistant dean for 18 years, directed the Bureau of Executive Education, helped found the Indiana Executive Program, and helped set up business programs on the regional campuses. He retired from his position of business professor in 1986. After retiring, he devoted his time to running three Bloomington-based business firms that he started with Arthur M.
Weimer. He was president the Management Education and Research Corp. and chairman of the Center for Real Estate Education and Research Corp., the Gwent Group, a consulting firm. He was a member of many organizations, the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, First United Methodist Church, the national, regional and local chapters of Junior Achievement, and several units of the Boy Scouts of America. He received the highest award given by Junior Achievement, and the Boy Scouts' Distinguished Eagle, Silver Beaver, and Silver Antelope awards.
Surviving are his wife, B.A., Bloomington; three daughters, Deborah L. Mysliviec, Raleigh, N.C., Barbara A. Ginnever, Richmond, Ind., Kathryn Rogers, Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Helen Kuntz, Michigan; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from noon until time of the service Saturday at the church. Allen Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hoosier Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America or Indiana University Foundation.
