R. Fern (Coffman) Walker

Fern Walker, 60, of New Carlisle, died at 6:20 a.m. today at Memorial Hospital after a one-year illness. She was a teacher at the Hudson Twp.Elementary School. Born on April 14, 1921, in Elmer, Mo., she had lived in New Carlisle for forty years after coming from South Bend.

On Oct. 20, 1946 in South Bend, she married Charles W. Walker, who died in 1975.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Frona Coffman of New Carlisle; a daughter, Miss Charlene Walker at home; and two sons, Jerry at home, and Lynn of Chicago.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the H.cC. Amen & Son funeral home, New Carlisle. Rev. Russell Davidson, former pastor of the Maple Grove United Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in New Carlisle cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She was a member of the church, the LaPorte County Chorus, the National Education Association, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 320, which will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Friday night
