Knight Dale "Mac" McKesson

McKESSON, KNIGHT D. Lansing Age 73, died July 15, 1995. Mac died at home with his family after a year of illness and hospitalization. He moved to Lansing from Indiana in 1947 to work for the Lansing State Journal, where he became an editor and columnist. He left the paper in 1956 and for most of the rest of his life, he worked in public relations and politics.

He formed his own public relations firm in 1959. He was secretary of the Michigan Public Service Commission in the mid-1960's and worked in state jobs with the Tourist Council and Insurance Bureau. He was elected to the Lansing City Charter Commission and to the Waverly School Board. He was active in Boy Scouts, Easter Seals, American Indian Affairs, Greater Lansing Urban League, Civitan Club, Central United Methodist Church and many other community groups.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and seven children, Kimberly Schmitt of Flowery Branch, GA, Knight, Jr. of Mt. Juliet, TN, Michael of Southfield, Christopher of St. Johns, Colleen of Jackson, Laurie of Sylvania, OH, and Kerry of Austin, TX. He was loved and will be missed by 10 grandchildren and many friends who enjoyed his intellect, energy and soft-spoken humor.

Religious services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 1995 at the EstesLeadley Greater Lansing Chapel with interment to follow. The family will receive friends at Funeral Home from p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may made to the Clinton Memorial and Sparrow Home Care and Hospice in memory of Knight D. McKesson
