William C. Newman Jr.

SOUTH BEND - William C. Newman Jr., 71, of 1819 S. MacGregor Road, died at 3:33 a.m. today in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr Newman retired in 1986 after 27 years of service as an engineering test mechanic for Wheel Horse Products. He was born Jan. 2, 1921, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On July 16, 1948, in South Bend he married Marcelle Martindale. She Survives with two daughters Pamela Acito of South Bend and Karen Probst of Indianapolis; a son Christopher of South Bend: three grandchildren; two sisters Marilynn Newman and Shirley Wallace, both South Bend; two brothers, Gerald of Dewey Lake and Richard of South Bend.

He was a Veteran of World War II and Received the Silver Star. He was a Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 and Faith United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m.Wednesday at Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home Memorial contributions may be made to the church or St. Joseph County Cancer Society
