James Robert “Bob” Scherzinger

South Bend - James R. "Bob" Scherzinger, 90, residing in South Bend, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Southfield Village, South Bend. He was born April 13, 1921, in South Bend, a son of Oscar John and Etta Mae (Sears) Scherzinger, and had remained a lifelong rersident of this community.

On Nov. 28, 1941, in South Bend, Bob and Ernestine Duncan were united in marrage. They enjoyed more than 59 years together until her passing on Aug. 1, 2000.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Scherzinger on Jan. 8, 2007; a daughter, Sharon Imof on May 3, 2010; a brother, Ralph Scherzinger on Nov. 16, 1999; a sister-in-law, Margo Scherzinger on Jan. 2, 1999; and a brother-in-law, C.R. Ray Joelson on May 30, 2002.

Mr. Scherzinger retired in 1982 from Dodge Reliance Co., following 27 years of service. He previously worked at Studebaker Corp., and following retirement worked for Deck Manufacturing. Bob was a life member of American Legion Post #303, River Park. He was a longtime member of Gospel Center Missionary Church and helped pour concrete and build the church. He also served as an usher for many years. In his younger years, he played in a baseball league, and played golf for Dodge Reliance.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Lee Korzan of Nashville, TN; his son and daughter-in-law, Carlon and Diane Scherzinger of Terre Haute, IN; daughter-in-law, Margaret Scherzinger of Crawfordsville, IN; and son-in-law, John Imof of Granger, IN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Graham and Libbyrae Troyer, Ryan and Chris Scherzinger, Mindy (Matt) Brownlee, Karleen (Scott) Hayes and Kara (Chris) Poore; ans seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Doris (Lloyd) Hunter of St. Joseph, MI, and sister-in-law, Ruth Joelson of Nokomis, FL.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Sat. Jan. 7, at Gospel Center Missionary Church, 930 South 30th St., South Bend. Dr. Thomas Murphy will officiate. Graveside services with military rites will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home River-Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and one hour prior to services Saturday in church. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mr. Scherzinger may be offered to Gospel Center Missionary Church Music Dept.
