Mabel Colette (Smith) Zehendner

SOUTH BEND - Mabel C. Zehendner, 71, of Rue Flambeau, died at 2:22 a.m. today in Michiana Community Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Zehendner was a former secretary for Bendix Corp. in the brake division She was born Feb. 10, 1922, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

As Mabel Smith, she married Alfred W. Zehendner. He died Sept 10, 1982.

She is survived by a step daughter, Janetta Strange of Indianapolis: six stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Whaley and France Roes, both of South Bend.

She was a recording secretary of United Auto Workers Local 9 and secretary of UAW Local 5.

There will he no services or visitation. Cremation will take place with burial in Highland Cemetery. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
