Lawrence A. Toppel

TUSTIN, CA - Memorial services were held for Lawrence A. Toppel on Saturday, May 5, 1990, in Tustin, Calif. Mr. Toppel died on 28, at the Tustin Healthcare Medical Center after a long and courageous fight against cancer.

The services were held at Saddieback Chapel at 2:30 Eulogies were offered by JerryPeter Schellhorn, Phillip Condit, Rockwell International, friends and associates of Mr. Toppel; Janis Harrison of Unitarian Universalist, Dr. Calvin Huckabay, the College of Fine and Humanities, Houston Baptist University; James Dickey, friend and neighbor who hosted a "Celebration of Life and Father James Sullivan.

Toppel, a native of South Bend, Indiana was born on Nov. 25, 1921 to Anthony and Anna Toppel.

A graduate of Indiana State University, Class of 1944, he was a member of Lambda Chi and Alpha Kappa Psi. An all-American with many interests, Toppel was a member of Sports Car Club of America and an avid competitive race car driver. Also a yatchsman, he piloted his own boat, mostly on the Inland Costal Waterway on the East Coast as well as the Atlantic and down into the Bahamas. Tennis and golfing were among his favorites, playing on some of the famous courts and courses on both the east and west coasts. Employed with Rockwell International since 1961, he lended assistance to the development of the Apollo spacecraft, the Space Shuttle, B-1 bomber and the Stealth aircraft. He served before his early retirement in 1981 as a Senior Industrial Planner.

Surviving Larry Toppel is his wife, Oma C. Huckabay Toppel; a daughter, Toni of Florida; his second mother, Marion Toppel of Tustin and several cousins; his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Garland Ireland of Bastrop, Mrs. Ruby Albright of Arcadia, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Towns of Mt. Lebanon and brother-in-law, Dr. Calvin Huckabay of Houston. MA

A private interment was held at Melrose Abbey Mausoleum in Anaheim. Memorials may be sent to City of Hope National Medical Center, 208 W. 8th St., Los Angeles, Ca. 90014-3289
