Roger W. Middleton, 49, of Libertyville, Ill., former South Bend resident, died Friday night after suffering an apparent heart attack while attending a basketball game in Libertyville. He was born Feb. 21, 1916, in South Bend and was graduated from Riley High School.

He also was a graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette. For the past 20 years he had been the chief engineer for the Milwaukee Railroad in' Chicago. He had served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Miss Irene Gordon, whom he married 25 years ago in South Bend; a son, James, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Tunis, of South Bend; his father, A. C. Middleton, of Mishawaka, and ; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Heyderhof, of Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. Lee Turner, of Sarasota, Fla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Ray Burnett Funeral Home, Libertyville. Graveside services will follow at South Lawn Cemetery, South Bend
