Laura Kay Zilkowski
February 16, 1962 ~ February 7, 2026 (age 63)
Laura K. Zilkowski, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in her Mishawaka home.
Laura was the daughter of Mary T. MacDonald and the late Eugene Zilkowski, Jr. She grew up in South Bend along with her siblings, the late Jim Zilkowski, Mary Ann (Thomas) Ronczy, David Zilkowski, and Christel (Tim) Laios. Laura was a graduate of Riley High School.
Laura was a devoted mom to her sons, Nicholas Zilkowski and Brandon Truman. She happily welcomed Brandon’s wife Isabell to the family, and
Laura was delighted to become a grandmother recently with the birth of their daughter, Charlotte.
Laura retired in the last year. Her working years included several years at Meijer and the bookstore at Notre Dame.
Laura's interests included doing crafts, taking walks and taking photos. She was a totally enthusiastic Notre Dame football fan. The most precious times in her life were with her sons, sharing her interest in country and western music, baking cookies and taking trips to Silver Beach with them. Laura had a big heart and a great sense of humor. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend, IN 46615. Vigil Prayers will be prayed at 4:00 pm, providing a moment for reflection and remembrance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, February 13, 2026, in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 S. Miami St. South Bend, IN 46613. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:00 am before the service. Laura will be laid to rest at Southlawn Cemetery, surrounded by the community she loved.
