Melvin "Pete" Smith

March 31, 1931 ~ June 10, 2023          (age 92)

Melvin "Pete" Smith, 92, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2023.

Pete was a 1949 graduate of Riley High School. He then served in the Marine Corps from 1951-1954.  He married his wife Patricia in 1960.  Together they raised two children.

During the holiday season, Pete was a local fixture playing Santa at many celebrations.  His entire working career was spent at AEP.  He retired in 1993, after 42 years of service.  He loved to garden, spend time with family, and play cards.

He is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Deb (Jeff) Hulecki of Fishers, son Dave (Sherri) Smith of Huntertown, grandsons Gabe (Rachael) Hulecki, Griffin Hulecki, Grant Smith, and Nicholas Smith.

A celebration of life will be held for the immediate family. Palmer Funeral Homes – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family.
