Dorothy E. (Rishel) Hice

Marshall Dorothy E. Hice, 83, of Marshall died Monday, April 30, 2001, in Coldwater. She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Buchanan to Vaughn and Hattie (Best) Rishel. With her husband, she owned the Motor Supply Co. in Marshall. She married Francis Hice on Sept. 25, 1940, in Galien. He died June 6, 1996.

Surviving are sons, Gregory Hice of Winterset, Iowa, Brian Hice of Marshall and Gerald Hice of Portage; daughters, Amy Dandenault of Battle Creek and Gail Brown of Mason City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Harriet Schrader of Coldwater. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ross Rishel.

Community involvement, hobbies: Past president of the PTA at Crary and Hughes Elementary schools in Marshall. Was active in the Community of Christ Church in Coldwater, where she served as women's leader, Sunday school teacher and young adult leader.

Was an instructor and cook in the church's camping program at Camp Manitou near Marcellus. Member of the Marshall Monday Club and National Organization for Women and was active in the Democratic Party. Was honored by Graceland University in Lamoni, lowa, for her contributions in assisting students. Enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading books and magazines. Had an interest in current political and international issues.

Spent winters near Arcadia, Fla., during retirement years and summers in Marshall.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gillespie Funeral Home, Coldwater. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Community of Christ Church, Coldwater, with the Revs.

Glenn and Mary Ashley officiating. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Bly Cemetery, Marcellus. Memorials: Community of Christ Church, Coldwater, or Outreach.
