Michael John Pilsitz

Dec. 22, 1917 – Jan. 9, 2004

Michael John Pilsitz, 86, Grand Island, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 9, in James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. He was born to Michael and Mary Pilsitz in Steelton, Pa., on Dec.22, 1917. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lieselotte; son, Michael E.(June Lee) Pilsitz of Corona del Mar, Calif.; daughter, Patricia A. Bottorff of Fishers, Ind.; granddaughter, Laura Espelin, and great-grandson, Nathaniel of Watertown, Mass.; sisters, Mary Ann Balmer of Mishawaka, Ind., Rosie (Joe) Smith of New Jersey, Anne (Jack) Beery of South Bend, Ind., and Helen (John) Finlay of Niles, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

He also left behind many friends in Indiana, Florida and Germany.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Kay (Gordon) Weist and Julia Pilsitz.

Dad graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1935, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, World War II and the Korean War. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Postal Workers Union. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1973, and enjoyed every day of his retirement doing the things he loved best, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards and dancing.Dad will be missed by all.

A service will be held on Friday, Jan.16, in his garden, which he enjoyed so much. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Leukemia Society or to any veterans organization.
