Barbara (Benke) Rhoadarmer
85, of Martinsville, passed away Dec. 20, 2011. Born in Chorzow, Poland, September 27, 1926 to Karol and Magdalena Benke, Barbara emigrated to the U.S. as a teenager from a displaced persons camp in Germany after WWII.
She obtained a B.A. in Art at San Francisco State University, a B.A. in German at the University of Washington, and an M.A. in German at the University of Notre Dame. She met and married David P. Rhoadarmer in 1959. She taught high school German in South Bend at Jackson H.S. and Riley H.S. Upon retiring, she produced and sold her own artwork.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Rhoadarmer. Surviving relatives include husband, David Rhoadarmer; daughter, Kelly Rhoadarmer (Robert Schweitzer); grandchildren, Lydia and Jerome Schweitzer, and sisters,Urszula Pizon and Stefania Sczymankiewicz. She will be well-remembered for her strong and loving spirit.
A memorial service will be held at Noon, Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Crown Hill Funeral Home Gothic Chapel , with visitation there from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Scleroderma Research Foundation.
